General Fishing Trends

Since the early 1990s, annual commercial catches within the Scalefish Fishery have generally declined. This decline can be explained in part by a combination of changed targeting practices, market demand, and management changes. Declining catch has been accompanied by a continuous decline in the number of vessels participating in the Scalefish Fishery and in the number of scalefish fishing licences issued.
