Banded Morwong Status

Banded Morwong
Cheilodactylus spectabilis

2020/21 Banded Morwong Status

Summary Spawning stock biomass (SSB) of Banded Morwong was estimated to be at 40% of initial SSB. Forward projections of the stock assessment model revealed a high confidence (90% probability) that SSB will remain at 39% of initial SSB over the next five years, thereby exceeding a precautionary limit reference point of 30% of initial SSB for this period. The above estimates indicate that the biomass of Banded Morwong is unlikely to be depleted and that the current level of fishing mortality is unlikely to cause the stock to become recruitment impaired. However, a review of the stock assessment model highlighted important sensitivities in predicted SSB that should be addressed through targeted research for increased confidence in future assessments.
