Blacklip and Greenlip Abalone Recreational Catch and Effort
The recreational fishery is concentrated off eastern Tasmania, and in particular off the southeast coast (Area 1). Blacklip and greenlip are combined in the maps below (although species numbers can be viewed by clicking on an area in the ‘Catch – Number of Animals’ map below). In the 2020/21 season, Blacklip Abalone were taken from all areas whereas Greenlip Abalone were restricted to the north coast.
Recreational harvest of abalone by assessment area. Firstly, the total catch in number of abalone caught in each assessment area is given, while the colours are the proportion (%) of the total catch (number of animals) that is attributed to each of the assessment areas. Secondly, the estimated weight of the total catch is given for each of the assessment areas, while the colours represent the proportion (%) of total weight taken that is attributed to each of the assessment areas.
