The eastern Australian salmon fishery scored > 80 in the MSC-RBF analysis, passing assessment with low risk of stock damage. The Productivity Susceptibility Analysis indicated eastern Australian salmon is a highly productive species with a short generation time and high fecundity. This species is highly susceptible to capture and damage by the fishery, with moderate overlap of fishing effort with stock distribution. As a schooling species inhabiting shallow coastal waters, the risk of encountering beach seine gear is high, and the Tasmanian fishery catches mainly sub-adults. The Consequence Analysis showed that, although eastern Australian salmon have long been exploited in Tasmania, recent low catches reflect market demand rather than reduced abundance and this stock is unlikely to be damaged or recruitment-impaired as a result of fishery activity.
