2022/23 Banded Morwong Status

Stock Status SUSTAINABLE
Summary The spawning stock biomass (SSB) of Banded Morwong is currently estimated at 41% of its initial SSB. Forward projections from the stock assessment model indicate a high confidence level (90% probability) that SSB will remain above 40% of the initial SSB over the next five years, surpassing the precautionary limit reference point of 30% of initial SSB for this period. These estimates suggest that Banded Morwong biomass is unlikely to deplete, and maintaining a TAC of 31 t is not expected to lead to recruitment impairment. However, it's essential to note that a review of the stock assessment model has revealed significant sensitivities in predicted SSB. To enhance confidence in future assessments, targeted research should address these sensitivities.
